Best Field Service Dispatch Software 2026: How the Board Actually Works
Field service dispatch software compared across nine platforms, with the list prices vendors publish and the boards that are quote-only. Prices checked 11 September 2026.
For most US trades running one to fifteen field staff, Jobber Connect is the best dispatch board per dollar, because the drag-and-drop calendar, the Find a Time suggestions and automatic customer reminders all sit at $149/mo billed annually for five users with a flat $29/mo for every extra seat. Housecall Pro Essentials is the same price and the stronger pick if online booking and customer notification are what actually run your day. Workiz is the tool to look at when the phone is the dispatch queue, but it publishes no price at all, so it belongs in a sales conversation rather than a spreadsheet.
- Best for:
- Owner-operators and small service businesses in the US with one to fifteen technicians who need the unassigned queue and the day view to work before they add any other software.
- Not for:
- Companies that already employ a full-time dispatcher and need skill-based automatic assignment, capacity planning and payroll-grade reporting, which is a per-technician enterprise purchase rather than a mid-market one.
Top picks at a glance
Best dispatch board for a crew of one to fifteen
Jobber Connect
$149/mo billed annually, 5 users
A drag-and-drop calendar, a Find a Time suggestion that reads availability and drive time, map and route generation for a day or a week, and real-time notifications when a job is reassigned. Every extra dispatcher seat or technician login is a flat $29/mo on top, and the 14-day trial runs the full Grow feature set without a credit card.

Best if booking and customer notifications drive the day
Housecall Pro Essentials
$149/mo billed annually, 5 users
Basic already carries scheduling and dispatch, online booking and a price book, and Essentials adds routes, checklist automations, employee GPS tracking and QuickBooks Online sync at the same annual price as Jobber Connect. No long-term contract, and a 14-day trial on the full MAX feature set.
Not an affiliate link (yet) — no commission if you sign up.
Best for high-call trades where the phone is the dispatch queue
Workiz
Request pricing
Call tracking, call recording and AI call answering tied to the customer record, so a job that arrives by phone lands against a client and a slot instead of on a Post-it. It publishes no plan prices, so ask for the subscription, the per-user rate and the phone costs in writing before you compare it.

| Tool | Entry price | Pricing model | Price published? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jobber | $29/mo annual (Core, 1 user) | Plans + $29/mo per extra user | Yes |
| Housecall Pro | $59/mo annual (Basic, 1 user) | Plans with 1/5/8 user allowances | Yes |
| ServiceM8 | Free (1 user, 30 jobs/mo) | Job volume, unlimited users | Yes |
| Kickserv | $60/mo (Start, 5 users) | Plan + user allowance | Yes |
| Service Fusion | $208/mo annual ($245 monthly) | Flat plan, unlimited users | Yes |
| FieldPulse | $99/user (vendor pricing tool) | Seat-based (full access / field only) | Tool rate only |
| Workiz | Request pricing | Plan + per-user rate | No |
| Simpro | Request pricing | Base plan + add-ons | No |
| ServiceTitan | Request pricing | Per technician, quote only | No |
Vendors marked 'No' publish no plan price on their main pricing page. FieldPulse is marked 'Tool rate only': the main page asks for a custom quote, but the vendor's own pricing tool publishes a platform rate of $99 per user (checked 11 September 2026). Where a third-party range circulates, this page labels it as an estimate and names the source.
A dispatch board is not a calendar. It is two screens that have to agree with each other: the queue of jobs nobody owns yet, and the day view of who is where when. Every other feature a platform sells — quoting, invoicing, payments, review requests — sits downstream of whether those two screens work. Get them wrong and you hire a dispatcher to do by hand what the software was supposed to do.
This page compares how nine platforms handle dispatching, using the list prices each vendor publishes on its own pricing page, read on 11 September 2026. We have not used these products on customer jobs and we do not claim to have. We run the published arithmetic against realistic crew sizes and flag where a feature a buyer assumes is included sits two tiers up.
Five of the nine publish a complete price list, so you can shortlist and budget on your own. FieldPulse, Workiz, Simpro and ServiceTitan want a conversation first about package pricing — FieldPulse’s platform rate of $99 per user comes from the vendor’s own pricing tool (checked 11 September 2026) — and where a third-party range circulates for one of those we label it an estimate and name the source.
The nine, in one table
| Tool | Entry price | Model | Published? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jobber | $29/mo annual (1 user) | Plans + $29/mo per extra user | Yes |
| Housecall Pro | $59/mo annual (1 user) | Plans with 1/5/8 user allowances | Yes |

1. Jobber — best dispatch board for a crew of one to fifteen
From $29/mo billed annually (Core, one user). Connect is $139/mo monthly for one user and $199/mo for five, or $99 and $149/mo billed annually. Every extra user is a flat $29/mo on every plan.
What it does for the board: drag-and-drop reassignment, a Find a Time suggestion built from availability and drive time, map and route generation for a day or a whole week, and real-time notifications when a job is moved between technicians. Connect adds automated reminders, automatic payment collection, checklists and follow-up.
The catch: live vehicle tracking is not built into Jobber; the vendor runs it through fleet-management partners, so a van on a map is a second bill. QuickBooks Online only, no Desktop. The discount advertised on the page (save up to 40%, offer ends 31 August) is a short-term introductory rate, not a list price. Full breakdown on our Jobber pricing page.
2. Housecall Pro — best when booking and customer texts run the day
From $59/mo billed annually (Basic, one user). Basic is $79/mo monthly. Essentials is $189/mo monthly or $149/mo billed annually for five users; MAX is $329/mo monthly or $299/mo billed annually for eight. Extra seats cost $100/mo on Essentials and $75/mo on MAX.
What it does for the board: scheduling and dispatch sit on Basic alongside online booking, estimates and invoicing, payments, a price book, job costing and review management. Essentials adds routes, flat-rate pricing, checklist automations, photo reports, employee GPS tracking, commissions and QuickBooks Online sync. MAX adds route optimization, recurring service plans, a sales proposal tool and open API access. There is no long-term contract.
The catch: route optimization — what turns a day’s list into a drive-time-efficient order — is a MAX capability, so wanting it with online booking means the $299/mo annual tier rather than Essentials. The user bands are rigid: a two-technician outfit pays the five-seat price. Nine add-ons are listed with no price at all, among them Voice, CSR AI, Campaigns and VGPS dashcams. Full breakdown on our Housecall Pro pricing page.
3. ServiceM8 — best when job volume sets the bill, not headcount
Free for one user and 30 jobs a month; $29/mo Starter (50 jobs), $79/mo Growing (150), $149/mo Premium (500) and $349/mo Premium Plus (1,500+). Every paid tier carries unlimited users, so the board does not care how many logins you hand out. SMS is 10c a message on the free plan and free from Starter up; extra jobs cost 20c each on the top tier. Recurring jobs and deposits are on all plans; 14-day trial, no credit card, no lock-in.
What it does for the board: because seats are free, every technician and every office login can see the job list without the bill moving. Electronic forms and asset management are listed from Growing upward, and where the day is a long list of short jobs, pricing by volume beats pricing by seat.
The catch: the bands are coarse, with nothing between 150 and 500 jobs a month, so a company running 180 jobs pays for the 500-job tier. The free plan caps you at 30 jobs and 10 AI uses a day, and the platform is mobile-app-first — fine for the field, less so for a back office in a browser.
4. Kickserv — the cheapest board per seat on this list
$60/mo for Start (five users), $119/mo for Run (ten) and $199/mo for Scale (twenty), with a 20% discount on annual billing and a 30-day trial.
What it does for the board: $12 per user per month is the lowest published per-seat cost we found, and dispatch is a job where several people each need a login. Run adds dispatch mapping, GPS check-ins and custom reports. QuickBooks Online is included; QuickBooks Desktop is an extra $50/mo.
The catch: lighter automation and fewer integrations than Jobber or Housecall Pro, and no route optimization at the entry tier, so the board shows the day but does not order it for you. The Kickback scheme is a 5% discount for processing a minimum monthly payment volume ($1,000, $2,000 or $3,000 by tier) — a discount, not a feature.
5. Service Fusion — flat rate, unlimited technicians on the board
$245/mo monthly or $208/mo billed annually (Starter); Plus is $382/mo monthly or $325/mo annually; Pro is $627/mo monthly or $533/mo annually — unlimited users on every plan. Annual billing saves 15% and is charged as one payment at sign-up. A demo is the only way in.
What it does for the board: Starter includes scheduling and dispatching, estimates and jobs, integrated payments, invoicing, reporting, text message alerts and QuickBooks integration. Plus adds job photo uploads, inventory, job costing and integrated voice and text natively. Pro adds an open API, custom documents, eSign, a customer web portal and progressive billing and recurring invoicing. QuickBooks Online and Desktop are both supported.
The catch: the entry point is high — $208/mo billed annually is more than a ten-user Jobber Connect plan — so it only pays at genuine headcount. Two-way voice and text, which is how a dispatcher re-routes a technician without leaving the board, starts at Plus. The Plus tier is new since our last snapshot, published on 11 September 2026.
6. FieldPulse — two kinds of seat and a $99-per-user platform rate in the vendor’s own pricing tool
Request pricing on the main page; $99 per user in the vendor’s own pricing tool (checked 11 September 2026). FieldPulse sells full-access seats for the office and cheaper field-only seats for technicians, across three packages: Essentials, Professional and Enterprise. The page’s own wording is “get a custom quote in one conversation.”
What it does for the board: scheduling and dispatching, work order management, estimates and invoices, a mobile app, workflow automation, QuickBooks sync, multi-location management and an open API. Field-only seats get assigned jobs, job details and notes, file uploads and clock in/out with location tracking — and no back-office access at all.
The catch: no plan price on the main page (the vendor’s own pricing tool does publish the platform rate, $99 per user, checked 11 September 2026), and the pricing page lists an identical feature list for all three packages, so the tier you choose does not change what the page says you receive. The page also reuses the phrase “our per-technician pricing” while describing seat-based pricing. Engage, the phone system, is billed separately, and the vendor’s own pricing tool lists it at $125 per month for five users plus $25 per additional user (checked 11 September 2026), while the main pricing page still describes it as line- and licence-based and asks you to contact the team. Ask for full-access and field-only rates separately before you compare it with Jobber.
7. Workiz — for trades where the phone is the dispatch queue
Request pricing. Call tracking, call recording, AI call answering, dispatch, two-way SMS and payments.
What it does for the board: in high-call trades like locksmith, garage door and appliance repair, the unassigned queue is really the phone queue, and work is won by whoever answers first. Tying every inbound call to a customer record and a booked job closes the gap between the call at 2 p.m. and the job that has to be slotted that afternoon.
The catch: no published plan prices. Its pricing page could not be read when we checked on 11 September 2026, so Workiz has no confirmed vendor figure on this page. Third-party estimates report plans at roughly $200-$325/mo with extra users around $55-$65/mo, and one 2026 compilation puts entry at about $187/mo — all of those unconfirmed third-party estimates, not vendor figures, reported by myquoteiq.com/compare/workiz. Ask specifically what the phone system and AI answering cost.
8. Simpro — for multi-site contractors with a real dispatch office
Request pricing. A base plan covering quoting and estimating, field and contractor scheduling, real-time inventory management and purchasing, field operations management, invoicing and payments, accounting and finance with QuickBooks, Xero, Sage and MYOB, reporting and business intelligence, multi-company compatibility and three Data Feeds.
What it does for the board: field and contractor scheduling plus field operations management are in the base plan, so a contractor running several sites or trading names gets one board rather than one per company. Add-ons include Digital Forms, Data Feed, Maintenance Planner, Takeoffs, Simtrac GPS tracking and SMS.
The catch: no published prices and no self-serve trial at all — guided demos only — on a base-plan-plus-add-ons structure where the add-ons are the point, GPS tracking included. It is aimed at commercial contractors rather than a two-van residential outfit.
9. ServiceTitan — the benchmark once you employ a dispatcher
Request pricing, per technician, quote only. Three packages — Starter, Essentials and The Works — sold by demo with no free trial. The vendor says it is trusted by over 100,000 contractors, a vendor figure rather than an independent one.
What it does for the board: dispatching and scheduling alongside call booking, invoicing, a pricebook, mobile estimates, payroll management, advanced reporting, commission tracking, customizable memberships, automated checklists and GPS for en-route technicians. Two features matter most here: Schedule Assistant, which suggests a date, time and technician to minimise drive time, and adjustable capacity planning — skill-based automatic assignment, the thing every mid-market board here leaves to your dispatcher’s head.
The catch: no published price and no free trial, so you cannot evaluate it without a sales call. Third-party compilations of user reports put it at roughly $125-$398 per technician per month, with implementation reported at $5,000-$50,000 on a 12-month minimum — all third-party estimates, not vendor figures, reported at myquoteiq.com/servicetitan-pricing/. Below a business that employs a dedicated dispatcher, the arithmetic rarely works. Full breakdown on our ServiceTitan pricing page.
What a dispatch board actually has to do
Six things decide whether a board survives a real week:
An unassigned queue. Work arrives before it is assigned: a call, a web form, a callback you promised. If the queue is a notebook, it is not a dispatch board.
Drag-and-drop reassignment. A no-show, a parts delay and a 2 p.m. emergency all mean moving a job. Whether that takes four clicks or a phone call is the difference between the tools.
Day, week and map views. The day view answers who is where now, the week view whether Friday is oversold, and the map whether the drive time is real.
Route generation. A day’s list in the wrong order is four extra hours of driving. Jobber generates routes for a day or a full week; Housecall Pro puts route optimization on MAX; the rest charge separately.
Customer notification that does not need a phone call. “On my way” and ETA texts remove the most common inbound call a small trade business gets.
Job status the office can read without phoning the technician. If the only way to know a job is done is to call the person doing it, the board is decoration.
Three limits worth stating. Jobber’s live vehicle tracking runs through fleet-management partners rather than being built in; Housecall Pro’s route optimization sits on MAX at $299/mo annual, not Essentials; and skill-based automatic assignment is an enterprise feature — ServiceTitan’s Schedule Assistant and capacity planning — while the mid-market tools leave the matching to a human. A generic appointment calendar in the Square Appointments or Picktime class books customers; it does not dispatch technicians.
Dispatch by crew size
Published list prices only, before payment processing, SMS and add-ons:
One technician. Jobber Core at $29/mo billed annually, or ServiceM8’s free plan under 30 jobs a month. A solo operator mostly needs the customer to get an “on my way” text; the board is a formality.
Two to five technicians. Jobber Connect at $149/mo billed annually covers five users, and Housecall Pro Essentials is the same $149/mo for five. This is the band where a board earns its money, because the owner is still dispatching between jobs. Kickserv Start at $60/mo for five users is the budget route.
Six to fifteen technicians. Jobber Connect plus extra seats at $29/mo each, or Grow at $299/mo annual for ten users, which adds job costing and two-way SMS. Service Fusion Starter at $208/mo billed annually removes the seat question with unlimited users, and ServiceM8 Growing at $79/mo suits a business built on job volume. Comparing the two front-runners? Our Jobber vs Housecall Pro comparison runs the same crew sizes through both.
Sixteen and above, with a dispatcher. This is where ServiceTitan becomes a real conversation and where you should look at the whole market. Our best field service software hub collects the wider shortlist, and Simpro is the other route if multi-site commercial work is the shape of the business.
We cannot put a verified wage figure next to the software here, so do the dispatcher arithmetic with your own payroll numbers: the comparison is the subscription against the hours the board gives back.
How this page was built
Every price was read from the vendor’s own pricing page on 11 September 2026. Where a vendor publishes no price, we say so and never substitute a figure. Where a range comes from a third-party compilation of user reports — Workiz and ServiceTitan here — it is labelled an estimate and the source named.
We have not used these products on customer jobs. We check the vendors’ arithmetic and flag where the advertised number and the invoice diverge; if a price changes, the page and the date above change with it.
Still deciding between a board and a booking tool? Our technician scheduling software guide draws that line, the cleaning scheduling page runs the same nine platforms through a residential clean round rather than a repair call, and the plain-English guide to field service management explains the whole category if you are starting from zero. The field service software pillar covers the wider market, and the By Trade hub collects the same price breakdown for HVAC, plumbing, locksmith, garage door and the other trades.
What works well
- Five of the nine platforms publish complete list prices, so a small trade business can shortlist and budget without booking a demo.
- Jobber's flat $29/mo per extra user keeps the bill predictable when you add a technician or a second office login one at a time.
- Automatic customer notifications and routing arrive on mid tiers rather than top ones, which is the shape most small dispatch operations need.
- ServiceM8 and Service Fusion both include unlimited users, so a growing crew does not re-price the software every quarter.
Where it falls short
- Three of the nine publish no price at all, so Workiz, Simpro and ServiceTitan each mean a separate sales conversation. FieldPulse publishes no package-level price, but the vendor's own pricing tool lists the platform at $99 per user (checked 11 September 2026).
- Live vehicle tracking is not built into all of them, and Jobber in particular runs it through fleet-management partners rather than natively.
- Skill-based automatic assignment, the feature that removes the human decision from the board, is an enterprise capability rather than a mid-market one.
- None of these platforms is a workforce scheduling tool for part-time staff who split a week between crews; they assume one person is assigned one job.
Frequently asked questions
What is field service dispatch software?
It is the part of a field service platform that puts the right technician on the right job: an unassigned queue of work waiting for an owner, a day view of who is where when, and the tools to move a job between people when the plan breaks. Scheduling answers when a job happens; dispatch answers who does it and in what order. Every platform on this page pairs the board with a mobile app so the technician sees the change without a phone call.
How much does field service dispatch software cost?
Published list prices start at $29/mo billed annually for a single Jobber Core user, and ServiceM8 has a free plan for one user and 30 jobs a month. A realistic five-person dispatch setup is $149/mo billed annually on Jobber Connect or Housecall Pro Essentials. Kickserv Start is $60/mo for five users and Service Fusion is $208/mo billed annually with unlimited users. Workiz, Simpro and ServiceTitan publish no list price at all. FieldPulse publishes no package-level price, but the vendor's own pricing tool lists the platform at $99 per user (checked 11 September 2026).
Which software has the best dispatch board for a small crew?
For one to fifteen field staff, Jobber Connect is the strongest published-price answer: drag-and-drop reassignment, a Find a Time suggestion built from availability and drive time, route generation for a day or a full week, and real-time notifications when a job is moved. Housecall Pro Essentials covers the same five users at the same annual price and adds routes, employee GPS tracking and QuickBooks Online sync if booking and customer texts matter more to you.
Do these platforms tell the customer when a technician is on the way?
Customer notification is a tier feature, not a baseline one. Jobber lists automated reminders and two-way SMS above Core, and Housecall Pro lists checklist automations and photo reports from Essentials up, with a dedicated Voice add-on that carries no published price. Ask the vendor to show you the exact text the customer receives and whether the office can send it manually when the automatic one fails.
Can I track technicians live on a map?
Partly, and the wording matters. Jobber generates maps and routes for a day or a week and confirms reassignments in real time, but live vehicle tracking runs through fleet-management partners rather than being built into the product, so it is a second subscription. Housecall Pro sells VGPS and dashcams as an add-on that carries no published price, and Simpro's Simtrac GPS tracking is also an add-on. Ask whether you are buying technician location on a job or vehicle location on a road.
Why do some of these tools not publish prices?
The three that publish nothing are sold by demo and quoted per seat, per technician or per line, which usually means the number depends on your headcount, your contract length and the add-ons you take. FieldPulse splits full-access and field-only seats and publishes a platform rate of $99 per user in the vendor's own pricing tool (checked 11 September 2026), Workiz quotes a plan plus a per-user rate, Simpro is a base plan plus add-ons and ServiceTitan is priced per technician. None of that is a defect, but it does mean you cannot compare them until you have asked for a quote.
Is a booking calendar the same as a dispatch board?
No. A generic appointment tool in the Square Appointments or Picktime class books a customer into a time slot; it does not assign a technician, show an unassigned queue or hold a job that has been reassigned mid-route. That distinction is why the same small business can outgrow a booking calendar while still being too small for ServiceTitan. If your day view can answer who is where when and what is still unclaimed, you have a dispatch board.
How were these prices checked?
We read each vendor's official pricing page on 11 September 2026 and used the published list price. We have not used these products on customer jobs and we do not claim to have. Where a vendor publishes no price we say so rather than inventing a figure, and any range taken from third-party compilations of user reports is labelled an estimate with the source named.
