Best Field Service Management Software for Small Business in 2026: 10 Picks

Ten field service management platforms ranked for small US crews, with what each one actually publishes about price. Vendor pricing pages checked 10 September 2026.

Our verdict

For most small US home-service crews the shortlist is three tools: Jobber (cheapest per extra seat, published prices, $29/mo entry), Housecall Pro (reviews and booking included, no contract, $59/mo entry) and ServiceM8 (job-volume pricing with unlimited users and a genuine free tier). Everything else on this list is either quote-only, built for a bigger company, or cheaper only in the specific case we describe.

Best for:
Owner-operators and crews of 1–15 people in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, cleaning, lawn care, locksmith, appliance repair and general handyman work.
Not for:
Commercial contractors who need job costing on projects, multi-location operations, or companies above 20 technicians — you need the enterprise category, not this list.

Vendors marked 'No' publish no plan price on their main pricing page. FieldPulse is marked 'Tool rate only': the main page asks for a custom quote, but the vendor's own pricing tool publishes a platform rate of $99 per user (checked 11 September 2026). Reported third-party ranges for those are given in the article and labelled as estimates.

Most “best field service software” lists are written without a single price in them, which is a strange way to help someone choose software. This one puts a number next to every tool — and where a vendor refuses to publish one, it says so rather than inventing a range.

The list is built for small US home-service businesses: HVAC and plumbing shops, electricians, cleaners, lawn and landscape crews, locksmiths, appliance repair and handyman operations. Every figure comes from the vendor’s own pricing page and was checked on 10 September 2026.

1. Jobber — best overall for small crews

From $29/mo billed annually (Core, one user). Four plans — Core, Connect, Grow, Plus — with user allowances of 1, 5, 10 and 15, and a flat $29/mo per extra user on every plan. Connect is $99/mo annual for one user and $149/mo for five; Grow is $149/mo for one and $229/mo for ten.

Why it tops the list: the pricing is published, the seat cost is flat, month-to-month billing is available, and there is a 14-day trial on full Grow features with no credit card. For a crew that grows one hire at a time, no other platform on this list makes budgeting this simple. QuickBooks Online sync starts at Connect.

The catch: QuickBooks Online only — no Desktop. Advanced reporting is shallower than the enterprise tools, and the marketing, AI receptionist and pipeline products are priced add-ons. Full breakdown on our Jobber pricing page.

2. Housecall Pro — best if booking and reviews must be built in

From $59/mo billed annually (Basic, one user). Essentials is $149/mo annual with five users and MAX is $299/mo annual with eight. Extra users cost $100/mo on Essentials and $75/mo on MAX.

Why it is here: review management is included on the entry plan, online booking and consumer financing are standard, there is no long-term contract at all, and the 14-day trial runs the full MAX feature set. QuickBooks Online sync from Essentials; the vendor’s integration page still documents a Desktop connector, but it is no longer named on the pricing page, so we could not confirm which tier includes it (checked 11 September 2026).

The catch: the user allowances are rigid — 1, 5 or 8 — so a three-person crew pays the five-user price, and $100/mo for one extra seat on Essentials is expensive against a $149/mo plan. Nine add-ons are listed and none are priced. Full breakdown on our Housecall Pro pricing page.

3. ServiceM8 — best value if you have more people than jobs

Free for one user and 30 jobs a month; $29/mo Starter (50 jobs), $79/mo Growing (150), $149/mo Premium (500), $349/mo Premium Plus (1,500+). Every paid tier includes unlimited users, and pricing is based on job volume rather than seats.

Why it is here: nothing else on this list combines a real free tier with unlimited users from $29. A five-person crew closing 120 jobs a month pays $79/mo flat — the same as a solo operator closing 120. If your business is high-headcount and low-ticket, the arithmetic beats every per-seat competitor.

The catch: the tiers are coarse. There is nothing between 150 and 500 jobs a month, so a shop running 170 jobs pays the 500-job price and gets one-third of it. Asset management and electronic forms start at Growing; markup billing and the knowledge base start at Premium. ServiceM8 Phone is a separate add-on from $19/mo.

4. Kickserv — cheapest cost per seat for a five-person team

$60/mo for Start (5 users), $119/mo for Run (10 users), $199/mo for Scale (20 users), with a 20% discount on annual billing. A 30-day free trial — twice the length of most on this list.

Why it is here: $60/mo for five users is $12 per user, the lowest published per-seat cost we found for a small team that does not want a job-count cap. Start already includes automated email and SMS reminders, over 20 reports, time and expense tracking and QuickBooks Online sync.

The catch: fewer integrations and lighter automation than Jobber or Housecall Pro, and no route optimization or review management at the entry tier. QuickBooks Desktop costs an extra $50/mo. The Kickback scheme gives 5% off if you process a minimum monthly volume through Kickserv payments, which is a discount, not a feature.

5. Service Fusion — best for unlimited users at a flat rate

$245/mo monthly or $208/mo billed annually (Starter); Plus is $382/mo monthly or $325/mo annually; Pro is $627/mo monthly or $533/mo annually — unlimited users on every plan.

Why it is here: if adding technicians must never increase the software bill, this is the cleanest structure on the list. Plus adds job costing, inventory management and integrated voice and text; Pro adds eSignatures, a customer web portal and recurring invoicing.

The catch: the entry point is high — $208/mo annual is more than a ten-user Jobber plan — so it only makes sense if you genuinely need the headcount. Demos are required, and there is no published free tier.

6. FieldPulse — best for mixed field-and-office seats

Request pricing on the main page; $99 per user in the vendor’s own pricing tool (checked 11 September 2026). FieldPulse sells two kinds of seat: full-access seats for office and admin users, and cheaper field-only seats for technicians who only need the mobile app. Three packages: Essentials, Professional and Enterprise.

Why it is here: the seat split is a genuinely good idea for a crew where most people never touch the back office, and the platform is mobile-first with QuickBooks sync, multi-location support and an open API on every package. Ordering is a conversation rather than a checkout.

The catch: no plan price on the main page (the vendor’s own pricing tool does publish the platform rate, $99 per user, checked 11 September 2026), and three packages with identical feature lists on the pricing page — the difference between them is not explained there. Ask for the full-access and field-only rates separately, and for the Engage phone system’s line and licence pricing. Full breakdown on our FieldPulse pricing page.

7. Workiz — best if you live on inbound calls

Request pricing. Workiz is built for call-heavy trades — locksmiths, appliance repair, garage doors — with native call tracking, call recording and AI call answering tied to job records.

Why it is here: if your business is won and lost on the phone, tying every call to a customer record and a booked job is worth more than any scheduling feature. Its integrations list includes QuickBooks, Google Calendar, Yelp, Thumbtack and Angi.

The catch: Workiz no longer publishes plan prices — third-party pricing trackers report paid tiers in roughly the $200–$325 per month range with extra users around $55–$65/mo, but we could not confirm those figures with the vendor, so treat them as estimates. The phone system and AI answering are sold separately, which is where budgets tend to break.

8. Simpro — best for commercial and project work

Request pricing. A base plan covering quoting and estimating, field and contractor scheduling, inventory and purchasing, invoicing, accounting integration and multi-company support, with a large add-on catalogue (digital forms, GPS fleet tracking, maintenance planner, takeoffs).

Why it is here: Simpro handles work the residential tools do not — project management, asset maintenance and contractor scheduling with more than 20 add-ons — and integrates with QuickBooks, Xero, Sage and MYOB.

The catch: no published prices, no self-serve trial at all (Simpro runs guided demos instead), and a base plan plus add-ons structure where the add-ons are the point. Better suited to commercial contractors and multi-trade businesses than to a two-truck residential outfit.

9. FieldEdge — best for established multi-truck operations with fixed licences

Request pricing. Three tiers — Select, Premier and Elite — with 2, 4 and 6 mobile app licences included respectively, and capabilities that follow the same pattern: single-option quotes and basic dispatching at Select, multi-option quotes and advanced service agreements at Premier.

Why it is here: the licence allowances are explicit, the pricebook and flat-rate pricing are included from the entry tier, and the QuickBooks integration covers both Online and Desktop from Select.

The catch: no published prices, and a licence-count model that makes growth a series of quote conversations rather than a self-serve click. Inventory management, outbound call recording and Proposal Pro sit at Elite, which is aimed at larger multi-truck companies.

10. ServiceTitan — only above about ten technicians

Request pricing, per technician, negotiated. Packages are Starter, Essentials and The Works, with membership management, commission tracking, advanced reporting and marketing attribution at the top tier.

Why it is here: it is the most-recommended platform in the category and a list that omits it is not honest. For a company with office staff, commission-based technicians and hundreds of maintenance memberships, nothing else matches the depth.

The catch — and this is the important one: no published price, no free trial and a reported cost profile of $125–$398 per technician per month with an implementation fee of $5,000–$50,000 on a 12-month minimum. Those are third-party estimates from user reports, not vendor figures. For most readers of this page, the right move is to stop at item nine. Full breakdown on our ServiceTitan pricing page.

Which one for your crew size?

One person. Jobber Core at $29/mo annual, or ServiceM8’s free plan if you run under 30 jobs a month. Nothing else is worth the extra.

Two to five people. Jobber Connect ($149/mo annual for five) or Housecall Pro Essentials ($149/mo annual for five) — the same price, so decide on QuickBooks and reviews. Kickserv Start at $60/mo is the budget option.

Six to ten people. Jobber Connect plus seats, ServiceM8 Growing at $79/mo if your job volume is under 150, or Service Fusion if you want unlimited users at a flat rate.

Eleven to twenty people. Service Fusion, Simpro or FieldEdge — the platforms priced for headcount rather than per seat — and then ServiceTitan only if you have the office infrastructure to use it.

How this list was built

Every price on this page was read from the vendor’s own pricing page on 10 September 2026. Where a vendor publishes no price, we say so and never substitute a made-up figure. Where a range comes from third-party compilations of user reports, it is labelled as an estimate with the source named.

We have not used any of these products on customer jobs, and we do not claim to have. What we do is read the vendors’ own documentation carefully, test the arithmetic they publish, and tell you where the advertised number differs from the bill you will actually receive. If a price changes, we update the page and the date above.

Trade-specific shortlists already exist for HVAC and cleaning businesses, and the field service software buyer’s guide explains the category those platforms belong to.

Ready to look at the two front-runners in detail?

What works well

  • Five of the ten tools publish their prices, so you can shortlist and budget without booking a single demo.
  • ServiceM8 includes unlimited users from $29/mo and has a free tier for solo operators — the strongest option if your job count is low and your headcount is not.
  • Service Fusion and ServiceM8 both price by flat plan or job volume rather than per seat, which flips the maths in favour of high-headcount, low-ticket trades.
  • Jobber and Housecall Pro both offer 14-day trials on their top-tier features with no credit card, so the two front-runners cost nothing to test.

Where it falls short

  • Four of the ten publish no price at all, so Workiz, Simpro, FieldEdge and ServiceTitan each mean a separate sales conversation. FieldPulse publishes no package-level price, but the vendor's own pricing tool lists the platform at $99 per user (checked 11 September 2026).
  • Every vendor on this list sells add-ons and charges payment processing on top of the subscription — and none of them prices its full add-on range on the pricing page.
  • Entry prices are not comparable across models: $29/mo for one Jobber user, $60/mo for five Kickserv users and $208/mo with unlimited Service Fusion users are three different products at three different scopes.
  • Only ServiceM8 offers a genuine free plan. The rest offer trials, which end.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best field service management software for a small business?

For most one-to-ten person US home-service crews, Jobber, and the specific tier depends on headcount: Core at $29/mo annual for one user, Connect at $149/mo for five, Grow at $229/mo for ten. Housecall Pro is the stronger choice if you want review management and online booking included and your crew is exactly five or eight. ServiceM8 is the best value if you run a low job count with several people needing logins.

What is the cheapest field service software?

ServiceM8's free plan is the cheapest at $0 for one user and 30 jobs a month. Among paid options, Jobber Core at $29/mo billed annually is the lowest published entry price we found, and ServiceM8 Starter at $29/mo includes unlimited users for 50 jobs a month. Kickserv Start at $60/mo covers five users, which is the lowest cost per seat for a small team that does not want a job-count cap.

Which field service software has unlimited users?

ServiceM8 (from $29/mo, job-volume based) and Service Fusion ($208/mo annual, $245/mo monthly) both include unlimited users on paid plans. That makes them worth pricing if you have more technicians than administrative work, because per-seat competitors charge $29–$100 a month for every additional login.

Do I need enterprise software like ServiceTitan?

Only above roughly ten technicians, with a dedicated dispatcher, commission-based pay plans and a recurring membership base worth automating. ServiceTitan publishes no prices; third-party compilations of user reports put it at $125–$398 per technician per month plus an implementation fee reported at $5,000–$50,000.

How much should a small business budget for field service software?

Based on published list prices only: roughly $350–$700 a year for a solo operator, $1,800–$2,200 a year for a five-person crew, and $3,000–$4,500 a year at ten users, depending on the platform. Add payment processing, which scales with revenue rather than headcount, and any add-ons you need.

Which is best for cleaning and lawn care businesses?

Jobber. Recurring jobs, route optimization on Connect and above, and a client hub that takes repeat bookings without a phone call are the features those trades ask for most, and the published pricing keeps a growing crew's cost predictable. Housecall Pro is a fair alternative if reviews and marketing automation matter more than price.

Why is ServiceTitan on a small-business list?

Because it is the most frequently recommended platform in this category and a shortlist that omits it is not useful — but it is included with a clear warning. It publishes no prices, sells per technician, and its reported first-year cost is roughly ten times a small-business subscription. Most readers should stop before the tenth item.
